Getting Involved in UNISON

Become an activist or a workplace rep

Learning for you

Our courses are friendly and informal, and involve practical activities and working with groups of other UNISON members and activists.

Get active in your workplace

Join UNISON’s large network of people across the UK who tackle problems at work and improve conditions for themselves and their colleagues through their UNISON branch.

Challenge inequality and discrimination

Equality is at the heart of UNISON. We challenge discrimination and win equality in the workplace and beyond.

But our equality work includes groups for members who experience particular types of prejudice and discrimination.

These groups meet locally and nationally to discuss, campaign and organise around the specific issues that affect them. They help UNISON understand equality and meet our equality aims.

Our four self-organised groups are for black members; disabled members; lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members; and women members. We also have equality groups for young members and retired members.

Help grow the union movement

You too can be part of the movement that gave the world weekends off, the national minimum wage, workplace pensions, the right not to be sacked for being pregnant or sick and many more legal rights. Oh, and ended child labour.

Campaign for change

UNISON members change lives by campaigning on local and national issues. It’s a great way to get involved, make a difference and introduce your friends and colleagues to UNISON.
